"Kicking a Ball and Pretending to Be Hurt" is the forty-first episode of Season 2 of Teen Titans Go! and the ninety-third episode overall. It first aired on 30 April 2015 on Cartoon Network.

Robin teaches the Titans how to play soccer. They quickly become obsessed, and accidentally uncover the secret reason why the sport is so popular.[1]

It’s Sports Day and Robin announces the holiday to the Teen Titans who did not know about the event despite the numerous flyers posted by Robin. He announces that they'll be playing fútbol, but the other Titans believe he said football. Robin repeats himself yet the Titans still believe he means football until he tells the Titans that fútbol is also known as soccer. The other Titans boo at the sport, believing it to be boring while Beast Boy adds that it's just kicking a ball and people pretending to be hurt. Raven makes a pun by saying she doesn't like to soccer, but likes to "sock him" and hits Beast Boy. Robin tells the Titans that soccer ignites the passion inside people, can tear a country apart, and is a metaphor for the miracle of life. Cyborg wonders if they're still talking about soccer, enraging Robin who tells him to call it fútbol. Raven shares her suspicions about the sport, claiming how she could never understand the joy of kicking a ball. Starfire supports her position and asks Robin how a dull game can ignite intense emotion. He counters her by giving an example on how Cyborg overplays his role as the goose whenever they play Duck Duck Goose. Robin tells the Titans to say the name of the sport and corrects Cyborg when he says football. He tells Starfire to say the sport with more passion which Beast Boy succeeds at doing. Raven repeats her pun, "sock him", and punches Beast Boy before claiming to be hilarious. Robin tells the Titans to take to the field and jumps out of the tower.

Down at the field, the Titans are dressed up in uniforms. Beast Boy tells Cyborg that since he's wearing shin guards, he won't be able to feel a thing and asks him to kick him. Cyborg hesitates but Beast Boy tell him to, saying he's protected. Cyborg kicks him, and Beast Boy complains that his shin guard isn't protecting anything as he broke his shin. Starfire, wanting to test out the shin guard as well, kicks Beast Boy and he falls on his face. Raven wonders if they're playing "sock him" and she punches Beast Boy while Cyborg and Starfire kick his shins. Robin blows a whistle and tells them to quit horseplaying. He claims that since no one in their country plays soccer, he shipped a soccer ball from halfway around the world and the Titans praise the design of the ball.

Robin decides to begin with the basics and tells them that the point of the game is to put the ball into the goal. Beast Boy grabs the ball and throws it into the goal, but Robin informs him that he wasn't supposed to use his hands. The Titans are unsure how to put the ball into the goal without their hands until Beast Boy figures out that they're supposed to use their feet. Raven says she doesn't have feet until Robin reminds her that she does by pulling up her cloak. Robin orders them to pay attention as he demonstrates a proper fútbol kick and kicks the ball into the goal. He says that because he scored a goal, they have to say goal for as long as possible. He tells Raven and Starfire that the way they say goal is unacceptable and that Beast Boy's goal wasn't long enough. Cyborg begins saying goal and Robin compliments him. The Titans begin playing soccer with Robin showing them how to kick, run, pretend to be hurt, and express their emotions when they lose to Silkie. The Titans begin feeling intense emotions which Raven is suspicious of. Robin attributes their feelings to the ball, but Raven still claims that it's unnatural. However, she is unable to help herself and yells goal for a long time.

Back in the tower, the Titans have incorporated soccer into their daily lives. Robin pours himself cereal and asks Raven for the milk which she gives to him by kicking. He pours milk into the bowl with his knee then kicks it back into the refrigerator, causing the Titans to say goal. Beast Boy accidentally bumps into Cyborg and he snickers and falls, pretending to be hurt. Robin gives Beast Boy a red card and the two begin arguing. Starfire runs around the living room, invigorated by her intense emotions. Raven says that they never led their lives with as much emotion and Robin holds the soccer ball up, claiming that it's because they discovered fútbol. The Titans gasp at Robin for holding the ball with his hands and he drops it, causing it to crack and the intense emotions to fade. After a bright flash, the cracked soccer ball begins to twitch and Robin uses his staff to remove the top part of the ball, revealing a purple creature who claims to be a Soccer Troll, a magical being inside every soccer ball that uses magic to make soccer enjoyable as per the command of ruler, Goal. Robin, wanting to expose soccer for the boring sport that it is, demands that the troll take the Titans to their ruler.

Deep underground, the troll takes them to the domain of King Goal which is populated by many Soccer Trolls and is fashioned in the likeness of a soccer field. Goal congratulates the Titans for discovering his plan and Robin orders him to stop. Goal refuses, claiming that soccer would just be kicking a ball and pretending to be hurt without the magic of the Soccer Trolls. Robin claims that they'll stop him one way or another and Goal decides to settle it on the field. If Goal makes one goal, then the Titans will die, but if the Titans make one goal then he'll call back the Soccer Trolls.

The game begins and the Titans play intensely until Goal simply kicks the ball into the other net, winning the game. The Titans, being sore losers, proceed to attack the Soccer Trolls and ruin the field. Goal offers to call back his Soccer Trolls if they stop, but Robin kicks Goal while wearing cleats. The Titans begin attacking Goal until they get bored and decide to play bowling. Cyborg takes out a bowling ball, but drops it. It cracks and a turkey claiming to be a Magical Bowling Turkey begins gobbling until Cyborg shoots it with his sonic cannon.
